Dumpster Kitty

Perched atop her throne

She contemplates her kingdom

The morning sun has risen

A distinct scent pervades the air

She is focused

Poised

Majestic

Dumpster Kitty

She is a Queen

Sometimes we’re stuck. In fact, a lot of us have been stuck lately. Stuck in the same physical place because of a pandemic. Stuck emotionally, or creatively…

Sometimes there’s a bit of comfort in being stuck. And other times, there’s a need to break free!

We had a couple of nights to get away, but since there wasn’t any warm weather nearby (which we like to chase), we packed our thick socks and spent the chilly weekend exploring some new places closer to home.

We packed up the van with a weekend’s worth of supplies. All buckled up with the engine started, we turned to each other:

“So… where are we going?”

We had called a new Harvest Hosts location about an hour beforehand, but didn’t receive a call back. It was time for Plan B.

We called another nearby Harvest Hosts location that we had been to before, and they had a spot open (woo!), so we booked the night. We ended up staying at a second Harvest Hosts location the next night, too.

Weekend Highlights:

  • Harvey made some goat frienemies
  • We hung out in the van down by the river!
  • We had a really nice FaceTime conversation with some West Coast friends
  • Mo has accepted her “Bird Nerd” title
  • We played sunset soccer
  • Mo beat Erin in numerous card games (she says I cheated but I didn’t)
  • We took some nice long trail walks/hikes
  • Erin climbed inside a stump
  • We walked under the tallest bridge in the state!

This weekend was a refreshing getaway even though we were really close to home. There’s so much exploring to do, even nearby!

And if nothing else, Dumpster Kitty has taught us all a valuable lesson: that the next time you think you’re stuck hanging out on top of a smelly dumpster, look around and nature might just show you something beautiful that you haven’t seen before.
